Join us as we kick off the 13th celebration of Black History Month in Nunavut at the Black History Month Opening & Awards Ceremony. This is while honouring that 2026 marks the 30th year of Black History Month Celebrations in Canada and 100 years of Black History Celebrations in the Americas.
February 1, 2026 - Astro Theatre, Iqaluit
This year our keynote speaker will be Justice Donald McLeod! Also featuring special guest, Regional Executive Vice President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) - Craig Reynolds!
Justice Donald McLeod, who is an appointed Judge of the Ontario Court of Justice and a founder of the Federation of Black Canadians (FBC). His organization, the McLeod Group had a well-known, respected reputation as one of the leading criminal, administrative and human rights firms in Toronto. He is a founder and Board Member of 100 Strong, a non-profit organization borne out of the passion to change the narrative of young African-Canadian Black boys.
There will be the award of 7 Sankofa awards at the event to honour Black excellence and our allies in social justice. Both in Nunavut and Canada.
